Fiction Adaptation Unit: Project Research

We were asked to bring a novel of our choice and work out how we would adapt it.
I brought in The Green Mile by Stephen King and worked with Zee to show how I would adapt it. In 1999 Frank Darabont adapt this novel for screenplay with Tom Hanks taking the lead role of Paul Edgecomb who is the head guard in charge of what happens on the green mile and he is the first one to realise that John Coffey (a prisoner on the mile) has been wrongly convicted and that another man raped and killed the two little girls that Coffey was actually trying to save with his gift. The 1999 film stayed true to the novel John Coffey being executed and the story being given from Paul Edgecombs' point of view, the only thing that changed is the fact that paul is telling another resident about his life in the film whereas in the book he is writing a sort of memoir.

How we decided to change it would be that Paul Edgecomb finds out slightly sooner that John Coffey has been wrongly convicted and works with a reporter (that is in the novel) to find and expose the real killer.
We thought it would work better on the small screen, probably on Channel 4 as it is quite brutal with some of the things that happen - and the story isn't P.C. enough for the BBC.
For the multi-platfrom we would set up a blog written by Paul Edgecomb discussing how his investigation is coming along - we would also have an online game for viewers to join in the investigation to find out who the real killer may or may not be.
