Eight Legged Freaks (2002)... Ellory Elkayem
The residents of a rural mining town discover that an unfortunate chemical spill has caused hundreds of little spiders to mutate overnight to the size of SUVs. It's then up to mining engineer Chris McCormack and Sheriff Sam Parker to mobilize an eclectic group of townspeople, including the Sheriff's young son, Mike, her daughter, Ashley, and paranoid radio announcer Harlan, into battle against the bloodthirsty eight-legged beasts.

The title did not come from the script, the director or the studio. In one scene, actor David Arquette improvised the phrase "Eight Legged Freaks" and that became the title. The original title was "Arac Attack" (in many European countries the film was released under that title).
When the mayor sees all the people running towards the mall, he says the line: "If you build it, they will come!". It's inspired by the line : "If you build it, he will come." from Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner.
In the beginning of the movie at the spider farm, when it shows the jumping spiders feeding, Johnny says, "They call it an Arac-Attack." This is a reference to the original title of the movie.
When the town's people have fled into the mall, the mayor, Wade, asks the goofy sheriff's assistant Pete what the hell just attacked him. Pete answers: "A spider, man", swallowing the syllable 'a', making it an obvious reference to Spider-Man, Marvel's comic book superhero.
